How Community Support and Determination Helped Franchesca Achieve

Her Career Goals

We are welcoming in the new year by continuing to highlight the successes of our Hispanic Women’s resource centers. This months highlight will focus on Franchesca G. from the Hispanic Family Center of Southern New Jersey.

Background

Franchesca, originally from the Dominican Republic, visited the Hispanic Family Center of Southern New Jersey (HFCSNJ) after months of unsuccessful job searching. Her primary goal was to secure a full-time office job, as a recent surgery made it difficult for her to stand for long periods. Despite having a high school diploma, access to a car, and proficiency in both English and Spanish, Franchesca faced challenges finding suitable employment opportunities because she did not have an associate degree. Recognizing her determination, the Hispanic Women’s Resource Center (HWRC) program offered her personalized guidance to navigate the job market effectively.

Assistance Provided:

The Hispanic Women’s Resource Center supported Franchesca by helping her build a professional resume, set up an account on Indeed, and search online for job opportunities. However, despite her efforts, Franchesca encountered disappointment as her applications on Indeed went unanswered. After almost a year of perseverance, she interviewed with the Hispanic Family Center for a receptionist position and secured the role. Additionally, she began a part-time job at Zara, where the summer schedule allowed her to work more hours.

Franchesca is now very happy with her job. She acknowledges the difficulties she faced in finding employment but credits the HWRC program for her success. She expressed her gratitude for the program’s services, stating that they were invaluable to her journey. Franchesca also shared that because the program provides extensive employment resources for Hispanic women, she is eager to promote its services to others.

Franchesca’s story reflects the resilience and determination of the women we serve. It also highlights the importance of programs that empower women to overcome challenges and achieve their goals. These initiatives not only create opportunities but also inspire women like Franchesca to give back to their communities and support others in their journeys toward success.
