Community Engagement & Outreach

Building civic power and educational equity for Latino communities across New Jersey through voter engagement, census outreach, and the fight to desegregate our public schools.

Our services

ways we build community power

LANF believes an informed, engaged community is the foundation of lasting change. Our civic engagement and education work helps Latino families participate fully in New Jersey's political process and ensures every child has access to a quality, integrated education.

Civic Engagement

LANF works to strengthen Latino political participation across New Jersey through voter education and outreach, including through the Million Voters Project. LANF was also a key partner in the NJ Census 2020 Coalition, leading outreach efforts to help ensure a fair and accurate count of Latino residents statewide. That same commitment to representation continues today through ongoing work on fair redistricting and civic participation.

Education

LANF leads the School Desegregation Project, working to end segregation by race and poverty in New Jersey's public schools. In 2018, LANF and a coalition of civil rights groups, students, and families filed Latino Action Network, et al. v. State of New Jersey, arguing that the state's school assignment policies violate New Jersey's constitution. LANF also partners with Salvation and Social Justice on grassroots organizing to address the shared integration needs of Black and Latino communities, and has published research on the disparities Latino students face in New Jersey schools.
