This Week's Spotlight: Samantha Díaz, Hispanic Women’s Resource Center

Background

Samantha Díaz, originally from the Dominican Republic, came to the center with a clear goal: to learn English and better adapt to life in the United States. After hearing about the program from her aunt, who had previously taken classes at the center, Samantha felt encouraged to take that first step.

Having arrived in the country just three months ago, she was looking for support, guidance, and opportunities to grow in this new chapter of her life.

Assistance Provided

Samantha enrolled in English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, where she successfully completed Level 2. Through these classes, she gained new language skills and built the confidence to communicate more effectively.

During her time at the center, she also learned about additional programs and resources available to participants. With the center’s support, Samantha received guidance in searching for employment and assistance with the process of enrolling in college.

Outcome

Through her experience, Samantha has grown more confident in her ability to navigate daily life in a new country. Beyond improving her English, she has gained direction, support, and a stronger sense of belonging.

She describes the center as a welcoming space that has supported her through multiple needs during her transition, helping her feel more secure as she builds her future.

Mi nombre es Samantha Díaz y soy de República Dominicana. Conocí el centro porque tenía la necesidad de estudiar inglés. Mi tía, quien ya había tomado clases de inglés en el centro anteriormente, me habló sobre el programa y me animó a inscribirme.

Decidí acercarme al centro, me inscribí en las clases y logré completar el nivel 2 con mucho éxito, adquiriendo nuevos conocimientos que me han ayudado a tener más confianza al hablar el idioma.

Durante mi experiencia también descubrí que el centro ofrece muchos otros programas y recursos. Gracias a su apoyo, he recibido orientación para buscar un empleo adecuado para mí y también ayuda con el proceso de inscripción en la universidad.

Me he sentido muy acogida en el centro, ya que han podido apoyarme en diferentes necesidades durante mi proceso de adaptación en este nuevo país, donde apenas llevo tres meses viviendo.

Me gustaría que el centro continúe por muchos años más ayudando y orientando a personas que, como yo, llegan con el deseo de salir adelante y construir un mejor futuro. Siempre que tengo la oportunidad, recomiendo el centro para que otras personas también puedan participar en sus programas y mejorar su calidad de vida.
