This Women's History Month, and as we recognize International Women's Day on March 8th, we are proud to launch "Empowerment in Action", a months long series highlighting the transformative impact of our Hispanic Women's Resource Centers.
During this months long series, we will share real stories from women who have strengthened their futures through access to education, legal support, workforce development services, and community connection. These stories reflect resilience, determination, and the power of opportunity.
They are not just testimonials. They are living examples of what becomes possible when women are given the tools to move forward.
This Month's Spotlight: Maria G.
Hispanic Women’s Resource Center at IACO (Immigration & American Citizenship Organization)
Maria G. came to our center seeking legal assistance after fleeing domestic violence in Colombia. She arrived in the United States alone, without family, navigating a new country while facing significant barriers, especially language and employment challenges.
After her first legal consultation, Maria began accessing additional services designed to support her long term stability and growth. She enrolled in English classes, determined to overcome her fears and build confidence in her communication skills. She also received assistance in developing her resume, an important step toward securing better job opportunities.
For Maria, learning English is more than improving a skill. It represents independence and new possibilities. Through consistent participation in our programs, she has strengthened her confidence, regained her sense of self reliance, and begun building a more stable future for herself and her son.
Today, Maria continues attending English classes and has expressed interest in enrolling in naturalization classes as she works toward citizenship and long term security.
Her message to other women is simple but powerful:
“Always seek help. Don’t be afraid to look for support through organizations that can truly make a difference in your life.”
Why This Matters:
Stories like Maria’s reflect the broader impact of the Hispanic Women’s Resource Centers. When women have access to language education, legal guidance, and workforce development support, they gain the tools needed to move forward with confidence and stability.
Access creates opportunity. Opportunity creates independence. And independence strengthens families and communities.
From job skills training to English language classes, computer lessons, resume assistance, and interview preparation, our Hispanic Women’s Resource Centers are making a meaningful difference in the lives of women across our communities.
