Empowerment in Action: Finding Support in a New Country

This Week’s Highlight: Roseline Joseph, Hispanic Family Center.

Roseline Joseph, of Dominican and Haitian background, arrived in the United States ready to begin a new chapter in her life. Like many newcomers, she faced uncertainty, but also carried a strong desire to move forward and build a better future.

After hearing about a course offered at the Hispanic Family Center, she decided to take a chance and get involved. From the very first day, she was met with kindness and support from the staff, helping her feel welcomed in what was still a new and unfamiliar environment. As she continued participating, Roseline attended additional workshops, including one she was invited to by Yeniffer Emiliano, which helped guide her and gave her more confidence during this transition.

Beyond emotional support, the center played an important role in helping Roseline navigate real challenges. For six months, she had been living in a shared space without stability, but with the center’s guidance, she was able to find a more suitable place to live. She also received support in her job search and was connected to resources that helped her move toward independence.

Through these experiences, Roseline has grown more confident and feels better prepared to face life in a new country. She describes the center as a place that not only provided guidance, but also reassurance, showing her that she is not alone in her journey.

Today, Roseline carries a strong sense of gratitude and hope. Her story reflects how access to support, resources, and a welcoming community can make a meaningful difference for individuals working to build a new life for themselves and their families.

Mi nombre es Roseline Joseph soy Dominicana/haitiana y quiero compartir mi testimonio sobre el impacto positivo que ha tenido el Hispanic Family Center en mi vida. Cuando llegué al país, me hablaron de un curso que el centro estaba ofreciendo y decidí participar. Desde el primer día, el personal fue muy amable y atento, lo que me hizo sentir bienvenida y apoyada en un lugar nuevo y desconocido.

Más adelante, asistí a otra charla a la que me invitó Yeniffer Emiliano, la cual fue de gran ayuda para orientarme y darme confianza en esta nueva etapa de mi vida. El centro no solo me brindó apoyo emocional y orientación, sino que también me ayudó de manera práctica en aspectos esenciales de mi vida diaria. Me asistieron en la búsqueda de una habitación adecuada, ya que durante seis meses viví en la sala de la casa donde me acogieron. También me apoyaron en la búsqueda de empleo y en otros recursos importantes para establecerme y ser independiente.

Gracias a los talleres, charlas y la guía del equipo del Hispanic Family Center, he podido aprender, crecer y sentirme empoderada para enfrentar los desafíos de la vida en este país. El acompañamiento, la paciencia y el compromiso del personal me han dado seguridad y esperanza, y me han mostrado que no estoy sola. Estoy profundamente agradecida con el centro y con todo su equipo. Pido a Dios que continúen recibiendo apoyo para que puedan seguir brindando ayuda a quienes más lo necesitan. El trabajo que hacen transforma vidas y permite que personas como yo puedan construir un futuro mejor para ellas y sus familias.
