Latinx/BIPOC Mental Health

LANF prioritizes mental health as a key policy area. To that end, we support the work of the Latino Mental Health Association of NJ and the professional training of Black and Latinx mental health professionals.

Latino and Black Voices Unite to Create Mental Health Agenda Advocate for Mental Health Equity for Communities of Color

“Between the pandemic, rampant racism, and xenophobia, New Jersey’s Black and Brown communities are coping with life-or-death issues daily and our current healthcare systems are failing us,” said Jesselly De La Cruz, Executive Director of the LAN Foundation and Past President of the Latino Mental Health Association of NJ. “COVID-19 has taught us that implicit bias can be life threatening and that communities of color continue to receive less quality care.”

NJ Voices Call for Greater Access to Mental Health Services for Latinx Communities

The Latino Action Network Foundation convened a virtual roundtable on July 22 and July 23, 2021. The purpose was to inform policymakers, from a Latinx stakeholder perspective, about the individual and systemic challenges to access services for the Latino community of NJ and to offer recommendations for advancing quality mental health services.

Mental Health in the Black Community

On August 2, 2021, the Latino Action Network Foundation and Salvation and Social Justice came together to host a virtual roundtable on Mental Health in the Black Community.

In honor of July as National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, we hosted a panel discussion to discuss how we can thrive with mental health illnesses. Our panel featured Carmen Cusido, published author and mental health advocate, and Tiffany Mayers, LCSW, who works with NAMI-NJ AACT-NOW.
