Housing Policy Advocacy

Advancing Affordable Housing Equity

We're dedicated to equitable housing for all New Jerseyans. Partnering with Fair Share Housing Center, we champion initiatives like the recent landmark legislation signed by Governor Murphy, Bill A4/S50, reinforcing the Mount Laurel Doctrine.

Key Highlights:

  • Streamlined Process: Simplifies affordable housing development, reducing legal complexities

  • Codified Methodology: Standardizes obligation calculations, enhancing efficiency.

  • Increased Transparency: Promotes accountability in housing plans and fund allocations

  • Repeal COAH: Removes the Council on Affordable Housing (COAH) from statute allowing more effective implementation.

  • Elimination of Regional Contribution Agreements: Ensures fair contributions from all municipalities.

With home ownership being the primary driver of wealth in the country, Latino New Jersey residents deserve the equal opportunity of benefiting financially from home ownership.

As part of our ongoing work on affordable housing in the state, we actively participate on a long-term research program for the New Jersey State of Affordable Rental Housing (NJSOARH).  The Latino Action Network Foundation serves as a member of NJSOARH's Advisory Committee engaging key stakeholders in identifying concerns and priorities; shaping the research and research products around housing in New Jersey. This would not be possible without the generous funding of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and facilitation from the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Policy Development.
